UPCOMING WORKSHOPS and DEMOS:
JAN 18
Koi Workshop at Dragonfly Wing Gallery, Kaleidescope in Mission Viejo, 1-4 pm
Koi are considered symbols of luck and fortune—perfect to invite good fortune for the New Year! I will provide you a stencil to trace on the koi, and step by step instruction to apply paint. You will watch your graceful koi come to life in before your eyes! Novices and experienced artists alike will achieve beautiful results! Then I’ll guide you through pouring resin over it, so that the end result is a koi under water, ready to hang on your wall when it cures! You will have the option of leaving your piece in the gallery to cure (it takes 24 hours) or carefully transporting it home, covered and kept level. Most choose to take it with them!
Octopus workshop coming soon at TAG Gallery in Los Angeles….stay tuned for details!
The subject matter I begin with is usually an octopus. Why octopuses? Because, first, they are SO cool, and crazily enough, they’re very intuitive to paint, even for novices! They’re basically blobs with long twisty bits, so even folks who have never picked up a paintbrush before can get surprisingly satisfying results. We will create them on 8” x 8” wood panels and use acrylic paint. The finishing step – learning to pour resin on top to create a smooth glass-like finish - results in a beautiful artwork ready to hang when dry. We will share octopus facts, talk about painting techniques that I have learned in my 20 years as a professional artist, and probably laugh a lot! You will take home your project that day--carefully though, the resin takes 24 hours to cure!
